Selling on Amazon without EAN / UPC code
Unlike eBay or other online marketplaces, where each seller has its own listings,
Amazon is an online catalog, where each item has its own listing, showing all the sellers offering this item.
While listing a new item on Amazon, it should be matched to an existing listing in the Amazon catalog.
In order to perform such a matching, Amazon requires UPC/EAN/ISBN codes.
If I don’t have a UPC/EAN/ISBN for my items, can I still list them on Amazon?
In most cases the answer is YES!
There are many ways to list on Amazon without codes. In this post we’ll present various legitimate solutions.
Some categories doesn’t require codes
If your items fit into one of the Non-Matching categories you can list without codes:
- Everything Else
- Personal Care
Some categories requires part numbers instead of UPC/EAN
- Computer parts
- Sports and outdoors
- Office products
- And additional categories…
Ask Amazon for an exception
If your items fit into a category that requires approval, but they don’t have codes you can request an exception from Amazon.

Find your items in the Amazon catalog
If your items are already listed on Amazon, then you can manually find the product in the Amazon catalog while listing the item and add your item to it:
If you items are unique, or self made, buying barcodes may be the only solution for you.
